IV Course on Financial Market Infrastructure

The Financial Market Infrastructure Directorate of CEMLA, with the support of the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic and the Central Bank of Guatemala, held the IV Course on Financial Market Infrastructure. The course had a hybrid format and took place from April 8th to 10th, 2024, with 153 attendees from 25 different institutions representing 20 countries.

The first and second days covered the fundamentals of Financial Market Infrastructures (FMIs) across 6 different sessions. Ángel González Tejada led the first session, Introduction to Payment Media and Instruments. Subsequently, sessions on Introduction to Financial Market Infrastructure Concepts and Types and Risks in Financial Market Infrastructures were presented by Edgar Iván León Ovalle and Gerardo Hernández del Valle, respectively. For the second day, sessions on Principles Applicable to FMIs, Responsibilities of Central Banks and other authorities relevant to FMIs, and Surveillance of FMIs were presented by Milton Vega Bernal, Gerardo Hernández del Valle, and Montserrat Jiménez, respectively.

The third day of the course was dedicated to presenting the current panorama of FMIs. The first session focused on presenting use cases of financial market infrastructure operation in Latin America and the Caribbean, with participation from representatives of the Central Banks of Mexico, Costa Rica, and the Dominican Republic. Lastly, Anneke Kosse presented Innovations in Payment Systems, offering a global overview of advancements in the field.
