Annual Meeting of the Remittances Program and Development and the Presentation of the RemitSCOPE LAC Platform

CEMLA Mexico City, Mexico
November 29, 2024
Hybrid

The meeting, jointly organized by CEMLA and IFAD, occurred on November 29, 2024, at CEMLA facilities in Mexico City. The event's main objective was the presentation and launch of the RemitSCOPE LAC platform and its products, where the diagnoses of six countries in the region and the Regional and Subregional Comparison were highlighted.

The meeting began with the presentation and welcome of the representatives of IFAD and CEMLA who explained the involvement of both institutions in the issues of migration and remittances both for the Latin American and Caribbean region and for the rest of the world, as is the case of the work that IFAD carries out in other continents such as Africa.

The event continued with the presentation of the RemitSCOPE LAC Platform, highlighting the fact that this is the first tool of its kind for the region that brings together in one place the information and data on migration and remittances and allows all interested parties to consult on different cross-references of variables included in it.

During the following presentation, summaries of six country diagnoses (Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Dominican Republic, Bolivia, and Nicaragua) were presented, as well as a Regional and Subregional Comparative Analysis of the progress of the countries and at the regional level on issues such as the importance of remittances, the remittance market, access, costs and financial inclusion of remittance market participants.

The meeting's conclusions highlighted the need for users of these tools to continue evaluating the information contained in RemitSCOPE and the analyses included and formulating their observations and comments, so that the tool can continue to evolve and improve in the future.

There were 80 participants present, of which 15 attended the meeting in person and the remaining 65 connected via Zoom. Among the participants were personnel from 15 Central Banks of Latin America, the Caribbean and Europe, as well as superintendencies, authorities of the financial system, some international organizations and universities.
