The balance of payments and international investment position statistics provide a series of economic indicators that are essential for the analysis and understanding of the evolution of the economy of the countries, as well as to anticipate their future performance. For this reason, the fact that the elaboration of those statistics being based on solid methodological principles and of international acceptance, is essential for them to serve as an input in the economic policy decision-making of the authorities.
